Dr. Ben Carson Says No Role for Him as of Yet
Dr. Ben Carson was one of the more loyal soldiers for Trump during his first term as president.
He was rewarded by being put in charge of Housing and Urban Development, one of the few cabinet members to serve the full term at his post.
There is much speculation that Carson had already been tagged as the U.S. Surgeon General, but Carson put those rumors to rest.
Not Yet
I would imagine that Carson will find a home in the Trump administration, but there is no clear appointment just yet.
With rumors flying about Carson already being tagged for a spot, Carson made it clear that he has not spoken to Trump about any post.
However, he did note the two of them do have an upcoming meeting.
Carson stated, "I am excited to speak with President Trump about how I will continue to advance the America First agenda, and I am meeting with him in the near future.
"However, contrary to reports, I will not be serving as the Surgeon General."
The Surgeon General is not considered a cabinet post, albeit a very high-ranking position within the administration.
The position falls under the purview of the Health and Human Services (HHS) director.
Carson’s tenure as HUD director was a bit controversial, so I don’t really see him going back to that department. It will be interesting to see where Trump finds a home for him.
I have always like Carson, but I find him to be a bit awkward, especially when speaking publicly.
Some people are so brilliant that they sound like complete idiots when they talk to “regular” people, and I think that was the case with Carson.
He just never really figured out how to dumb down his conversation to where he did not make himself sound like an imbecile.
Trump has been moving at the speed of light in terms of filling up his cabinet, as he must have had a clear list in mind before the election, so I would imagine we will find out soon enough what role Dr. Carson will fulfill.
