Donald Trump Says He Does Not Expect Governor DeSantis to Appoint Lara Trump

There is a lot of speculation flying around about Senator Marco Rubio’s replacement in Florida once he leaves office to be Trump’s Secretary of State if he is passes through the Senate (nobody expects resistance to this appointment).

Lara Trump, the former co-chair of the RNC, has already resigned her post on the RNC, which drew speculation that a deal had already been made for her to take the seat, otherwise, why resign the post?

However, Donald Trump just stated that he was not expecting DeSantis to appoint Trump, which shocked everyone.

Not Happening

So, to be clear, this is all speculation on Trump’s part, possibly even an attempt at deflecting attention away from the seat to take the heat off DeSantis and his daughter-in-law for the time being.

When the rumors were flying that Governor DeSantis could be tapped to step in if Pete Hegseth’s nomination fell apart, I more or less assumed that a seat for Lara Trump was part of the bargain.

Hegseth, however, has gained traction since then, so he now has a fairly good shot at passing through the Senate, which takes DeSantis out of the equation.

To that point, when Trump was asked if he expected DeSantis to appoint Lara to the Rubio seat, he responded, “No, I don’t.

“But I don’t know. Ron’s doing a good job, that’s his choice — nothing to do with me.”

Trump continued to gush over his ambitious daughter-in-law, who has made it quite clear she has been bitten by the political bug.

He went on, “Lara’s unbelievable. She is so highly respected by women. Even her workout routines are through the roof. She lifts 150 pounds. I don’t know how the hell she does it.”

Trump also made it clear that he will support DeSantis’ decision, stating, “Ron is gonna have to make that decision — and he’ll make the right decision. He’ll make the right decision.”

That, to me, is Trump trying to make peace with DeSantis and more or less telling his MAGA supporters to back off if DeSantis picks someone other than Lara Trump for that seat.

Something else to consider here is the future of Ron DeSantis.

The governor is term-limited now, so he cannot run for re-election in 2026. Rubio won the seat in 2022, so that seat will be locked up until the 2028 election.

If DeSantis decides not to run for president in 2028, he is likely to run for Senator, so he will want to pick someone who will leave the seat for him in the 2028 election, simply agreeing to fill the spot and keep the seat warm for DeSantis.

There are a lot of factors in play here, so whatever decision DeSantis makes here will offer some real insight into his future plans.
