Donald Trump Endorses Mike Rogers for MI Senate Seat

On Monday, Donald Trump endorsed a candidate in the Michigan GOP Senate primary race.

Trump chose Mike Rogers over former Rep. Peter Meijer (R-MI), with Meijer having voted for the Trump impeachment when he was in office.

While MAGA is celebrating the endorsement over Meijer, quite a few Republicans are calling out Trump for having endorsed a “deep state” candidate.

Good or Bad Choice

So, I get why Trump endorsed Rogers, but I would have suggested that he identify another candidate in the race.

Rogers has pummeled Trump in the past and is considered to be deeply rooted in the GOP establishment.

Even so, Trump gave him his blessing in this election.

Trump posted the endorsement on Truth Social, writing, “Highly respected former Congressman Mike Rogers is running for the United States Senate from the Great State of Michigan. Mike has served his Country during a career loaded up with accolades and wins, from the Army to Congress, and now, hopefully, the U.S. Senate.

“Mike will work closely with me to enact our America First Policies. He will tirelessly fight to Secure the Border, Stop Inflation, Grow the Economy, Strengthen our Military / Veteran Support, and Protect and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment.

“Mike Rogers will be a Great and Powerful Senator for Michigan, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement. HE KNOWS HOW TO WIN!”

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) was among the first to call out Trump over this endorsement with a scathing post on X that included past comments by Rogers about Trump…

Rogers is presenting himself as being all-in on Trump now, clearly hoping to win over MAGA, stating, “Well, not if you work for a living, and here in Michigan, we work for a living. So that sends a very clear message, I think, and why I think that puts the president in a great place to actually win the state of Michigan.

“We win the state of Michigan, we will win.

“Donald Trump will be the next president, and Mike Rogers is going to be the next United States senator here.”

The best guess is that since Rogers is currently leading polling by a wide margin, so he chose the lesser of two evils rather than encouraging a MAGA candidate to run in the race.

Rogers, however, is losing in polling against Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), who is the frontrunner on the Democrat ticket.

I am personally not buying the fact that Rogers has just changed his stripes. I think he is saying what needs to be said to try to win this seat, then I think he will turn around and stab Trump in the back.
