Dolly Parton's brother, David Parton, dies at age 82

One of the country's true musical and philanthropic legends is mourning the death of a beloved family member.

As Fox News reports, David Wilburn Parton, older brother of superstar Dolly Parton, has died at the age of 82.

Country superstar suffers loss

David Parton died on Friday, Nov. 15, at his home in Sevierville, Tennessee, according to an obituary posted by the Farrar Funeral Home.

The funeral home noted that Mr. Parton was a retired bridge builder superintendent for the Simpson Construction Company and had played a role in the construction of bridges in Kingsport, Johnson City, and Knoxville, Tennessee.

Mr. Parton leaves behind Kay Parton, his bride of 45 years, a nephew, Lucas, who was described more as a son, daughters Donna and Dena, and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, among other extended family members.

Though a cause of death was not released, the obituary included an expression of gratitude from the family for Dr. David McNabney of Smoky Mountain Home Health & Hospice as well as two other caregivers, suggesting that Mr. Parton may have been in failing health for some time.

A funeral service is set for Tuesday at the Leadvale Baptist Church, according to the funeral home.

Family mourns

Mr. Parton's sister Stella took to social media to share the sad news, writing on X, “My brother David passed away peacefully this morning. It's never easy to say goodby to a loved one, but he got his angel wings and is now at peace.”

Representatives for Dolly Parton, now age 78, did not immediately respond to media requests for comment on the passing of David, who was one of the world-famous singer's 11 siblings.

Country music fans everywhere will surely be offering condolences to Ms. Parton, who is celebrated the world over not just for her musical talents, but also for her generosity and charitable works.

Through her Dollywood Foundation, Parton has championed causes such as vaccine research, literacy, and education, and her extensive history of giving earned her the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy back in 2022.

The world of country music as well as those who simply admire Dolly Parton for her lifetime of contributions are assuredly praying for her entire family's peace and acceptance during this difficult period.
