Dolly Parton Explains Why She Has Not Done Super Bowl Halftime Show

Country music star Dolly Parton recently stunned the entire country when she performed the halftime show at the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game.

Parton, 77, came out for the show sporting a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader outfit, wowing fans, but also getting everyone curious as to why she never did the Super Bowl halftime show.

It turns out, Dolly has been offered the show multiple times, but she always turned it down.

Let Me Tell You

Doing the halftime show requires a significant amount of investment on the part of the artist. The NFL does not pay them for the show, but it does absorb the costs, including travel, for putting the show on.

That, however, does not account for the time and money the performer needs to dedicate to the planning of the show.

While halftime is extended by a few minutes during the Super Bowl, going from 12-13 minutes to 25-30 minutes, it still requires a lot of moving parts to put on the theatrics of a full concert in about 20 minutes.

Parton has been asked, but she turned it down, stating, "Oh, sure. I’ve been offered that many times.

"I couldn’t do it because of other things, or I just didn’t think I was big enough to do it — to do that big of a production."

She added, "When you think about those shows, those are big, big productions.

"I’ve never done anything with that big of a production. I don’t know if I could have. I think at the time that’s what I was thinking."

Some of the biggest acts in music have done the Super Bowl halftime show, and many of them, while not regretting their decision, often talk about how the undertaking took far more resources than they imagined at first.

At 77, my guess is that Dolly is looking for easier these days, not harder, so it looks like the Cowboys halftime show will have to do for now.
