DOJ Asks Judge to Block Requests by J6 Defendants to Attend Inauguration
It would appear that quite a few January 6 defendants are seeking permission to head to DC in January to witness Trump’s second inauguration.
As we would expect, the Department of Justice is asking that these requests be denied.
My gut tells me this request will be granted.
Don’t Let Them In
Cindy Young is one of the roughly 1,400 people who were charged in relation to the events that took place on January 6, 2021.
She was found guilty of four misdemeanor charges, resulting in four months behind bars and a ban from the DC area.
Young has now petitioned the court for an exemption to go to DC for Donald Trump’s inauguration in January.
Young’s attorneys argued that she "poses no threat of danger to the community and she is not a risk of flight,” but the DOJ begs to differ.
Prosecutors argued, "The risk Young presents to those in D.C. did not end with her exit from the Building.”
The filing continued, “As such, her presence at an event staffed by law enforcement would not only present a danger but would cause further victimization for the officers who Young has publicly mocked.”
Young is just one of many defendants who have filed for permission to attend, but I think it is doubtful the judges in these cases will allow any of these people to head to DC for the event.
This is not my favorite subject to discuss because I know I am at odds with a lot of my readers on this particular subject.
While I 100% agree that the January 6 rioters were treated far differently than the George Floyd rioters, who literally set our streets on fire, there are still people in that mess who truly broke the law and need to pay the price.
I have zero problem with Trump pardoning people who did nothing violent that day, such as the grandmother who was prosecuted for being inside the Capitol and praying, but the people who defaced property or attacked police officers need to pay and should not be pardoned by Trump.
If he does, I think he opens the door to being impeached for lending comfort and aid to an insurrectionist.
I believe this will create significant political problems for both Trump and the GOP heading into the 2026 and 2028 elections.
