DOJ announces Garland will not be prosecuted for contempt

Attorney General Merrick Garland is off the hook.

It was not long ago that the House voted to hold Garland in contempt of Congress after he refused to give up the recordings of President Joe Biden discussing the handling of classified documents.

When Garland first learned of the news of the House’s decision, he called their vote “deeply disappointing.”

“Today’s vote disregards the constitutional separation of powers, the Justice Department’s need to protect its investigations, and the substantial amount of information we have provided to the Committees,” Garland said at the time.

However, the Department of Justice has made the official decision that no charges will be pursued.

Assistant Attorney General Carlos Uriarte wrote a letter to Speaker of the House Mike Johnson confirming the news.

“The longstanding position of the Department is that we will not prosecute an official for contempt of Congress for declining to provide subpoenaed information subject to a presidential assertion of executive privilege,” Uriarte said.

“Consistent with this longstanding position and uniform practice, the Department has determined that the responses by Attorney General Garland to the subpoenas issued by the Committees did not constitute a crime, and accordingly the Department will not bring the congressional contempt citation before a grand jury or take any other action to prosecute the Attorney General,” the letter continued.

It is a bit of a wild decision, considering that Republican officials have been penalized for much less.

Needless to say, countless are furious about the decision to let Garland off the hook so easily.

When it comes to President Joe Biden and his supporters, they love to apply the rules to everyone BESIDES themselves.

We need anyone who is not willing to abide by the laws put in place OUT of office.

Do you think Garland should have been excused so easily?
