DOGE Finds $2 Billion in taxpayer funds marked for Stacey Abrams-linked group
DOGE uncovered $2 billion in public funds designated for an emerging nonprofit associated with Stacey Abrams, a Democratic candidate for governor of Georgia who has run unopposed for multiple terms.
In April 2024, Power Forward Communities was granted the funding by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as part of the agency's Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund program, during the Biden administration, as The Daily Wire reported.
The green energy grant went to Power Forward Communities, even though the organization was created in late 2023 and never made close to the amount of the grant—its most recent tax filings show that it made only $100 in its first three months of operation.
The EPA distributed eight grants totaling $20 billion from the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund in April 2024, including Power Forward Communities' grant.

On Feb. 13, EPA administrator Lee Zeldin revealed that the Biden administration left $20 billion at an outside financial institution, limiting federal oversight of the program.
The fact that Zeldin's team found cash for Power Forward Communities raises ethical questions about how the Biden administration chose recipients of such large awards and if it played favorites.
Abrams advocated for the Biden administration's green energy policy and sought support for former vice president Kamala Harris.
Republicans have long feared that the Biden administration would support organizations designed to receive federal funding, such as the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, a "green bank" established by the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.
Official Statement
"I made a commitment to members of Congress and to the American people to be a good steward of tax dollars and I’ve wasted no time in keeping my word," Zeldin told the Washington Free Beacon. "When we learned about the Biden Administration’s scheme to quickly park $20 billion outside the agency, we suspected that some organizations were created out of thin air just to take advantage of this."
"As we continue to learn more about where some of this money went, it is even more apparent how far-reaching and widely accepted this waste and abuse has been," the EPA administrator continued. "It’s extremely concerning that an organization that reported just $100 in revenue in 2023 was chosen to receive $2 billion. That’s 20 million times the organization’s reported revenue."
As a partnership led by left-wing nonprofit Rewiring America, Power Forward Communities was founded in October 2023 to promote electrification policies and a shift away from fossil fuels. At the time, Rewiring America senior counsel Abrams said she was "thrilled" to join Power Forward Communities.
According to its website, Power Forward Communities is the first countrywide program to finance large-scale residential energy efficiency modifications. The group claims to helps homeowners, developers, and renters transition to electric stovetops from gas ones.
