DoD Secretary Hegseth says he was targeted by Biden’s IRS

Secretary of Defense Hegseth created a bit of a firestorm by claiming the IRS was weaponized against him by the Biden administration.

Hegseth posted a portion of a letter from the IRS from what he claimed was a “rushed” audit.

The letter states that he still owes more than $33,000 in taxes that must be paid immediately.

More Information

I am not exactly a fan of Hegseth, and I never hid that during his confirmation hearings.

I hope I am wrong about him, but sensationalism like this without the full picture is not winning me over.

Hegseth posted a small portion of the audit letter, captioning it, “Of course the outgoing Biden IRS rushed an ‘audit’ of the incoming SecDef. Total sham.

“The party of ‘norms’ and ‘decency’ strikes again. We will never back down.”

I don’t want people to take this the wrong way because I am not sticking up for Biden, but I feel we need more context regarding this audit letter.

What proof does he have that the audit was “rushed,” as he claims?

Did he actually owe the taxes or did he make a mistake or not pay his taxes?

The Hill also reported on the post, stating that the IRS has “not publicly commented on the audit, and Hegseth has not denied its accuracy.

“It’s not clear whether the IRS initiated the audit due to concerns regarding the couple’s tax filings or if it was part of a routine review.”

Musk, of course, jumped all over this, responding, “They love the low blows.”

But is it a low blow if Hegseth did not pay his taxes or filled out his tax forms wrong?

This, to me, is just Hegseth making a post to grab some headlines because he is not providing any proof whatsoever of his claims.

I really do want to believe in this guy, but stunts like this serve no purpose unless he can back up his claims.

Furthermore, if the IRS can prove this was legit, he looks like a complete fool for going public with this notice.
