It would appear that Democrats are starting to get worried about Governor Youngkin of Virginia.
The DNC just approved a massive spending blitz in the state to start to make a dent for the upcoming election.
With Youngkin's success, the Dems are apparently worried that their stranglehold on the state is just about over.
Clear and Present Danger
Not only had Youngkin had a successful term thus far, but he has also proven to be quite the fundraiser for the GOP.
Now, Democrats are firing off some attacks in preparation for the upcoming state legislative elections in November.
According to the Fox News report, it was Joe Biden who told the DNC to drop some money into the state, and the DNC obliged, spending about $1.2 million last week.
This is a sure sign that Joe Biden and Democrats are more than just a little worried about the influence that Youngkin has in the state.
To put this in perspective, four years ago, the DNC spent about $100,000 total. So far this year, the DNC has spent $1.5 million.
Youngkin has been focused on pushing GOP candidates in Richmond, where Democrats completely dominate right now. If he can do that, he can start to push a more conservative agenda through the state legislature, which would be a disaster for the Democrat Party.
Carly Cooperman, a Democratic pollster, stated, "Biden knows that Virginia is a very important state, and as a purple state with off-year elections, these results will be seen as a measure of where the country stands.
"If the results in the state Senate and House of Delegates are positive for the Democrats, it will be seen as a shift in momentum heading into the 2024 election, where Biden currently is struggling in the polls.
"Likewise, if Republicans are successful in Virginia, it would increase Gov. Youngkin's standing significantly, improving the already popular governor's positioning for a last-minute presidential run."
So what is the driving force behind all of this?
Well, Youngkin does not always follow the party line, so his more moderate stance is dangerous to Democrats.
Even though Trump endorsed Youngkin, he has somehow managed to keep his distance, which has not allowed Democrats to attack him the way they have other candidates that Trump supported.
It is going to make for a very interesting race in an off-year election because quite frankly, Democrats are not motivated to vote right now.
