Director whose film depicted Trump raping former wife dropped by agency
The Apprentice is a 2024 biographical drama film that depicts a fictionalized version of Donald Trump's life in the 1970s and 1980s. Some aspects of the film were so disturbing, such as the scene in which Donald Trump rapes his then-wife, Ivana Trump, that the president threatened to sue over the way he was portrayed.
The film's director, Ali Abbasi, tried to make Donald Trump look like a monster. New revelations prove that Abbasi is actually the one with the problems.
Abbasi has been dropped by his representatives and has issued an apology after being accused of groping an A-list actor at a Golden Globes afterparty.
The director said he is "truly sorry" after disturbing allegations of inappropriate groping recently surfaced.
However, he did not deny that the incident took place.
"I want to address the recent articles about me directly and openly," he said in a statement. "I fully understand that my action made someone uncomfortable, regardless of my intent, and for that I am truly sorry."
"I had spent time with the person concerned on multiple occasions and had reason to think we had a friendly relationship. When I saw him at the Golden Globes party, I was excited to reconnect," he continued.
"I made an over-familiar gesture—a slap on the rear—which I intended as playful and not in any sexual way whatsoever. I quickly realized I had misjudged the situation. I apologized to him on the spot, and the following day I made sure my apology was reiterated through my representatives," Abbasi said.
"I believe in taking accountability for my actions; I made a mistake, I apologized and have learned a valuable life lesson. I remain grateful for the incredible work of our cast, crew and supporters on The Apprentice and I hope the focus stays on their achievements."
The alleged victim has not yet been publicly identified, but the consequences are already in motion.
His representatives quickly dropped him after the allegations surfaced.
Abbasi also spoke about parting ways with his reps, but tried to downplay the reason why the split occurred:
"I can confirm that I’ve made the decision to move in a new direction with my career. I’m grateful for the work CAA and Entertainment 360 have done, particularly their commitment to The Apprentice, which remains a project I’m incredibly proud of. I look forward to announcing my next steps at the appropriate time."
