Director David Lynch's cause of death revealed

The cause of death of legendary director David Lynch has finally been revealed.

Lynch died in mid-January 2025 at the age of 78.

It was reported by TMZ that at the time of his passing, Lynch was at his daughter's residence after escaping the California wildfires.

There was much speculation surrounding the cause of death, considering Lynch had revealed his significant health battles in the past.

The director confirmed his struggle with emphysema back in 2024.

It had gotten so bad that he was unable to leave his home to continue his career as a director.

He also confirmed he had been a smoker since the shocking age of eight.

Now, the death certificate has finally been released.

Lynch passed away from cardiac arrest.

The death certificate also noted that “chronic obstructive pulmonary disease” was the underlying condition that caused his heart to give out.

His family has been quiet since the news of his passing, confirming his death before going silent.

“It is with deep regret that we, his family, announce the passing of the man and the artist, David Lynch. We would appreciate some privacy at this time,” Lynch’s family wrote.

“There’s a big hole in the world now that he’s no longer with us. But, as he would say, ‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole,’” the family went on.

“It’s a beautiful day with golden sunshine and blue skies all the way,” the statement concluded.

Some of Lynch’s most noteworthy films include the 1984 film Dune, as well as The Elephant Man, and Lost Highway.

It was reported that Lynch was cremated and laid to rest on Jan. 22, well before the death certificate was released.

Lynch was placed at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

We pray for peace and comfort for those grieving the loss of Lynch during this difficult time.
