A Favorite
It is not often you come across any politician who is just as well-liked on one side of the aisle as he is on the other.
That, however, would perfectly describe Roy Herron, who spent more than two decades in the Tennessee legislature, including serving as the Chairman of the Tennessee Democrat Party.
Herron was always active, having run dozens of marathons and super-marathons when he was in office. In fact, that was a bond he shared with Republican lawmakers who used to run with Herron on a regular basis.
Herron was jet skiing on Kentucky Lake when he collided with another jet ski. His injuries were substantial, and he was immediately taken to Henry County Medical Center, then later transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Even with the best of care, he could not overcome the injuries.
Herron’s wife, Rev. Nancy Carol Miller-Herron, stated, “Roy loved his family with all his might. He passed doing what he loved most — spending time with our sons and their friends in the Tennessee outdoors where his spirit was always most free.”
Democrat Joe Hill stated, “His legacy of advocating for ‘the least among us’ will represent the gold standard of service for Democrats and Republicans in Tennessee’s future.”
Herron is survived by his wife and three sons, John, Rick, and Ben.
Rest in peace, sir…
