Ron DeSantis just threw Donald Trump and his supporters a bone.
While interviewing with CNN’s Jake Tapper, DeSantis stated that the hoped Donald Trump would not get charged, reported The Hill.
DeSantis was very careful with his words, but it was clearly a show of support for Trump, and actually a little deflating for DeSantis.
Good or Bad Move
DeSantis was asked IF there is any criminality proven, should Trump be charged.
He responded, “Here is the problem. This country is going down the road of criminalizing political differences. And I think that’s wrong.
“Alvin Bragg stretched a statute in Manhattan to be able to try to target Donald Trump. Most people, even people on the left, acknowledge that if it wasn’t Trump, that case would not have likely been brought against a normal civilian.
“I don’t think it serves us good to have a presidential election focused on what happened four years ago in January. So I want to focus on looking forward.
“I don’t want to look back. I do not want to see him – I hope he doesn’t get charged, I don’t think it’ll be good for the country, but, at the same time, I’ve got to focus on looking forward and that’s what we’re going to do,” reported the Daily Caller.
Tapper pushed back, but DeSantis held firm on the politicizing and weaponization of the DOJ…
As you saw, DeSantis was about as careful as could be, sidestepping two of the major investigations against Trump and concentrating on the Bragg case, which I think we can all agree is complete and utter garbage.
This had to be a bit deflating for DeSantis, though. He is finally getting national coverage and a prime-time interview, and they want to talk about Donald Trump.
DeSantis needs every second of every interview to concentrate on his policies, not Donald Trump, if he hopes to make up ground, so this ended up being an exacta win for Trump.
He not only got support from DeSantis, a man who he criticizes at every chance, but he also got coverage during DeSantis’ air time… it does not get much better than that for Trump.
