DeSantis Loses Another Key Player from SuperPAC

Ron DeSantis’ campaign is reeling, this time from yet another high-profile resignation, as key players are abandoning the Florida governor just before the primary election opens.

Never Back Down’s chief strategist, Jeff Roe, has resigned.

The announcement was made on Saturday night.

We Are Out of Here

Never Back Down has been a hot mess for months, stumbling through its early strategy and seeing DeSantis’ support cut in half since he announced that he was running for president.

At one point, DeSantis was neck-and-neck with Trump, but now he is struggling to hold onto second place overall, with Trump having a commanding lead in all polling.

Scott Wagner was brought in recently as chairman of the PAC, making several immediate changes to try to get this ship righted, and Roe appears to be the latest casualty.

Roe was running DeSantis’ ground game in Iowa, but a report that surfaced over the weekend apparently made him sour against Wagner. In that report, Wagner stated, "Following mismanagement and conduct issues, including numerous unauthorized leaks containing false information, senior officials were terminated.

"We don't have time to indulge false narratives from those with ulterior motives."

An attorney for the terminated employees accused Wagner of making a “categorically false” statement to the media, so Wagner revised his statement to read, "Following some opinions regarding mismanagement and conduct issues, including some who believed there appeared to be numerous unauthorized leaks containing false information, NBD and some senior officials parted ways."

Roe then posted his resignation via social media Saturday night, only hours after the above report was posted, saying that he "cannot in good conscience stay affiliated with Never Back Down given the statements in the Washington Post today. They are not true and an unwanted distraction at a critical time for Governor DeSantis.

"This is a team of political warriors and their grind and dedication over the last nine months has helped put Governor Ron DeSantis in a strong position.”

Trump celebrated the turmoil, posting on Truth Social, "Jeff Row [sic] is out - GAME OVER for DeSanctimonious."

Roe has been a hot commodity the last few years, running Senator Ted Cruz’s presidential campaign in 2016 as well as Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin’s campaign in 2021.
