Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis continues to poll strongly in multiple surveys as the 2024 presidential nominee, with many believing he is a greater threat to Democrats if he runs in the next election.
Trump's 2020 loss and subsequent downward spiral through turning against many former friends has left the door open for the common sense approach of the Florida governor known for his freedom focus and ability to get things done.

"The 2024 election is increasingly shaping up to be a '[COVID] vaccine election,' to quote The New York Times. And DeSantis in this particular regard has been objectively brilliant," the Daily Caller's Gama Sosa said in an op-ed.
"Despite initially going with the "two weeks to stop the spread," DeSantis quickly pivoted, blocking vaccine passports through executive order in April 2021, well before most states were thinking of the problem. His health department under Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo has issued warnings against COVID shots for men and children – something most states are unwilling to touch," he added.

"DeSantis has eclipsed former President Donald Trump in a hypothetical matchup of favorites to secure the Republican National Committee's presidential nomination for 2024, according to a new Yahoo-YouGov poll," Newsmax noted earlier this month.
"The nationwide survey listed the opinions of 1,653 adults over a five-day period (Dec. 1-5), and DeSantis held a 5-point lead over Trump (47%-42%)," it added.
The governor's popularity has soared as the top Trump alternative, though he has not yet mentioned a 2024 presidential run.
Instead, DeSantis has focused on his reelection as governor in Florida, leaving the door open to the potential of a future White House run.
The governor may not want to run against Trump, who previously endorsed him, or may wait to see who else runs in the early months of 2024.
Regardless, DeSantis is in a prime position as the party's future leader, whether he chooses to run in 2024 or look ahead to a later potential run.
