Dems Side with GOP on Freezing Iran’s $6 Billion

Joe Biden is still coddling Iran for some reason, ever after Hamas, whom Iran backs, attacked Israel.

There have been numerous calls to freeze the $6 billion that was sent to a Qatar bank for Iran.

Now, even Democrats are calling out the Biden administration, and Biden is clearly feeling the heat.

Lock It Up

Moderate Democrats who will be fighting for their lives in the upcoming election cycle are walking across the aisle on this one.

Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) stated, “I wasn’t supportive of the initial $6B transfer. We should absolutely freeze these Iranian assets while we also consider additional sanctions.”

Senator John Tester (D-MT), who is also going to have a big test coming up in 2024, also sided with the GOP on this one.

He stated, “As American intelligence officials continue to investigate the terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas, we should review our options to hold Iran accountable for any support they may have provided.

“At a minimum, we should immediately freeze the $6 billion in Iranian assets and explore other financial tools we have at our disposal. Moving forward, we need to ensure our ally Israel can defend itself from these ongoing deadly attacks against its civilians.”

Twenty GOP Senators also penned a letter to Biden demanding those funds be frozen.

The letter stated, “The State Department should immediately rescind the waivers that allowed Iranian funds to be converted and moved to more accessible bank accounts, as well as work with U.S. ally Qatar to immediately freeze the accounts containing these funds.

“We must stand with Israel to restrict access to these Iranian funds.”

To this point, the Biden administration believes that this money will only be used for aid and will only go through approved vendors.

They push this narrative even though the president of Iran has already stated that the money will be appropriated any way he sees fit.

Biden does not want to give in here because the moment he freezes that money, he concedes that the concerns of the GOP were legitimate.
