Dems Call for Resignation of One of Their Own After Burglary Charge

Is it me, or are we seeing a slew of Democrats get into legal trouble these days?

Donald Trump may be getting all the headlines, but the Democrats sure do have the volume.

The latest is a Minnesota Democrat who has her party calling for her resignation.

Gotta Go

Democratic Minnesota state Sen. Nicole Mitchell has gotten herself into some big trouble.

According to reports, she broke into her stepmother’s home to obtain some of her personal belongings as well as her late father’s ashes.

She did this, of course, without permission.

Ken Martin, chairman of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, is among those who are now calling for her resignation.

Martin stated, "While Sen. Mitchell is entitled to her day in court, her continued refusal to take responsibility for her actions is beneath her office and has become a distraction for her district and the Legislature.

"Now that her constituents have had full representation through the end of the legislative session, it is time for her to resign to focus on the personal and legal challenges she faces."

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, a Democrat, has also called for her resignation over the charges.

The report stated that Mitchell entered the home through a window, claiming that her stepmother had stopped speaking to her after her father’s death, and she wanted to get some items of personal significance, including her father’s ashes.

Mitchell is actually a local personality, having served as a meteorologist for KSTP-TV and Minnesota Public Radio before being elected to office in 2022.

She is also a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air National Guard.

How this will impact her standing in the Guard remains to be seen.

She has yet to formally resign, even though Republicans, who have been calling for Mitchell’s resignation for more than a month, are now joined by quite a few prominent Democrats.

Her next court hearing is on June 10, so there may be more clarity on this by then.
