Democrats Turn Their Focus to Justice Samuel Alito

The attacks against conservative justices just keep coming from the left side of the aisle.

Another ethics complaint has been filed, this time against Justice Samuel Alito.

The complaint was filed with Chief Justice Roberts by Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), the Democrat who belongs to a segregated club in his home state.

Attack!

After Whitehouse started to present his Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act, Justice Alito was rather outspoken regarding Congress’ relationship with the Supreme Court.

Alito, at the time, stated that the Constitution provides “no provision” that would allow Congress to provide oversight for the Supreme Court.

Whitehouse is not only going after Alito for his comments, but he is not accusing Alito of accepting gifts and not reporting them properly.

Whitehouse wrote, "In the worst case facts may reveal, Justice Alito was involved in an organized campaign to block congressional action with regard to a matter in which he has a personal stake.

“Whether Justice Alito was unwittingly used to provide fodder for such interference, or intentionally participated, is a question whose answer requires additional facts.”

He continued, "As you have repeatedly emphasized, the Supreme Court should not be helpless when it comes to policing its own members’ ethical obligations. But it is necessarily helpless if there is no process of fair fact-finding, nor independent decision-making.

“I request that you as Chief Justice, or through the Judicial Conference, take whatever steps are necessary to investigate this affair and provide the public with prompt and trustworthy answers."

He claims that there are five different instances where Alito allegedly violated the ethics of the Supreme Court.

As I have stated many times, it is utterly ridiculous to single out one justice when you see what these justices are getting on the cuff from big-money donors and influential business people on both sides of the aisle.

But I would also note that unless they have business with the court, as per the previous ethics rules, they were technically doing nothing wrong.

And I still do not understand why Republicans are not using the same line of attack against the liberal justices and dragging the name of Ruth Bader Ginsburg through the mud for a trip she took to Tel Aviv that was financed by a man who won a Supreme Court case.

They want to play dirty, let’s play dirty.
