In just a few weeks, Title 42 is scheduled to end.
We are already seeing a buildup at the border in anticipation of it ending.
Now, numerous Democrats are expressing concern that once this immigration rule is ended, the numbers, which are already a record high, will explode.
We Have Concerns
Sens. Mark Kelly and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, and Jon Tester of Montana penned a joint letter to the administration to express their concerns.
The letter stated, “We have expressed concern with DHS’ preparations for the end of Title 42, especially as the situation has deteriorated at times. Record annual encounters have led to untenable situations.
“In Arizona, shelters have been forced well beyond capacity. This month, El Paso has seen over 700 migrants released directly onto city streets due to overcrowding. This is not safe, and creates a dangerous situation for migrants and communities.”
Since March 2020, it is estimated that Title 42 has been cited 2.3 million times for removing immigrants.
We saw record numbers coming across the border in Fiscal Year 2021 and Fiscal Year 2022, so you can imagine how much worse this problem would be if this rule were to be removed.
The president of the national Border Patrol union, Brandon Judd, stated, “Once Title 42 goes away, it just means we’re going to be releasing even more people into the United States — which, of course, just encourages more people to come.”
DHS Secretary Mayorkas claims that the administration has a plan to deal with the border situation after Title 42 ends, but the man tells the truth less often than the sun comes up every day, so we really cannot trust a word that he says.
Besides, if Republicans have their way, he will not be in office much longer.
Rep. McCarthy (R-CA) has already told Mayorkas that he can either resign or face impeachment once the GOP takes over the House.
