Former Democrat State Rep. in CT Pleads Guilty

There is a case in Connecticut that is a two-for-one special in Democrat corruption.

Michael DiMassa, a West Haven, CT, Democrat, has pleaded guilty to numerous counts of wire fraud conspiracy.

His pleas are in connection to the theft of more than $1.2 million in COVID relief funds.

Let’s Gamble

In addition to DiMassa, his wife, a former business associate, and one other person have also been charged.

DiMassa used his position in the State House as well as being an aide to the West Haven City Council to steal the funds.

He was tasked with approving reimbursement of COVID-19 expenditures, which he abused to take the funds, part of which was then used to gamble at the Mohegan Sun Casino in eastern Connecticut.

Based on the plea deal, he is likely to do somewhere around four years in prison.

His wife pleaded guilty to wire fraud for receiving $148,000 for services never provided.

She is due to be sentenced in January.

The theft was discovered when West Haven officials came under scrutiny for the expenditures of the COVID relief money.

An audit was ordered, which revealed the theft.

I  might be going out on a limb here, but I would wager that very problem exists around the country.

It would not surprise me to learn more money was either stolen or wasted than actually went to the purpose for which it was meant.

That is the very reason why I continue to opine about a transparent ledger accessible to taxpayers that would literally account for every penny at every level of government.

Far too many checks are cut without any oversight, and we all end up footing the bill for this corruption.
