Dem House Leader Says He is Ready to Work with Trump
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) has rejected just about everything Republicans have wanted to do over the last two years.
He surely thought Harris was going to win this election, not to mention that he was expected to be the Speaker of the House.
Well, the election did not turn out as expected, but now Jeffries is hinting that he got the memo from the American people.
Working Together
I would love us to get to a point where the insults stopped, and members of Congress got back to doing actual business.
This means nobody gets a clear win, and both parties can walk away from any legislation feeling as though they got something for their constituents.
In addressing the change of administration, Jeffries stated, "Democrats have consistently made clear that we are ready, willing and able, to find bipartisan common ground with the incoming administration on any issue.”
That is an absolute lie, as Democrats have regularly drawn a line in the sand, especially when they hold the power, and refuse to give up on anything.
Trump will be more than willing to work deals with Democrats, especially when it comes to immigration and abortion, but Democrats are going to have to be reasonable.
Jeffries continued, "We are prepared to find common ground with the incoming administration on any issue, particularly as it relates to the most decisive ones to emerge from this election, which, in our view, is to deal with the high cost of living.
"The American people are correct that the deck has been stacked against everyday Americans for decades in ways that undermine the ability for far too many Americans to access the American Dream."
Jeffries and Trump have not directly spoken, but I suspect that will be rectified as soon as Trump takes office.
I would love to believe that Jeffries is being sincere, but I can only go from his past behavior and actions, and that tells me he will be just as combative as Pelosi was when she was the Democrat leader in the House.
But the more Dems resist this change, the more likely they are to allow the GOP to hold the House in 2026, and this just fine by me.
