Delta plane emergency landing after ‘haze’ fills cabin

Another day, another emergency in the air that is beginning to kill confidence in air travel.

This time, it was a Delta plane that filled with some sort of “haze” just after taking off.

The plane was forced to return to the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Monday morning.

Here We Go Again

Delta Air Lines Flight 876 had just taken off when it was reported that smoke had filled the flight deck.

Pictures and videos surfaced from the main cabin, where passengers were also engulfed in what has been described as a “haze.”

There were 94 passengers and five crew aboard, all of whom returned to safety.

Delta stated, "The flight crew followed procedures to return to Atlanta when a haze inside the aircraft was observed after departure.

"Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people, and we apologize to our customers for the experience."

Delta supplied ground transportation and rebooking for all passengers on the flight.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

As someone who flies fairly frequently and is not exactly a fan of the mode of transportation, confidence is waning.

Over the weekend, an American Airlines flight was diverted and escorted by Italian fighter jets when there was a bomb threat aboard.

Just last week, a Delta plane came up short on an icy runway, then flipped, exploded, and wound up upside down on the runway. Miraculously, everyone on board survived the crash.

Recently, a Black Hawk helicopter collided with an American Airlines plane over the Potomac, killing all 67 people on both crafts.

Just two days later, a medical transport plane crashed in Philadelphia, killing all seven people on board the aircraft.

I am not sure what is going on in the world of aviation, but this is something our new Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, needs to figure out as quickly as possible.

The department is in disarray after four years of absentee leadership by Pete Buttigieg, and we are seeing the results of that now.

Duffy was a reality TV star before entering politics, having served as a congressman for Wisconsin.

After retiring from office, he joined Fox News, and he was overwhelmingly approved by the Senate, with a vote of 77-22.

I hate to say it, but my hopes are not very high here as I was never bullish on Duffy in this role because he has zero experience in the transportation industry.

He earned a marketing degree from St. Mary’s and earned his law degree from William Mitchell College of Law.

Other than his brief career as a reality star, he served as a District Attorney in Ashland County, WI, so there is literally not an ounce of experience in transportation.
