David Horowitz Groups Cuts Ties with Candace Owens Over Israel Remarks

The David Horowitz Freedom Center has cut ties with conservative commentator Candace Owens over her remarks about Israel.

The center, which served as a key part of her early popularity, released a statement on the matter this week.

“Six years ago, the David Horowitz Freedom Center invited the then little-known Candace Owens to its annual Restoration Weekend gathering of conservative movers and shakers,” the group said in its statement, which noted that Owens herself said it was “the conference where everything started for me.”

“Instead of focusing on the meaningful activism and defense of American values that brought her to our attention, Candace Owens has become obsessed with her own fame, stirring up drama to compensate for a lack of real achievement,” the group said.

"When Candace implied that Israel was engaged in 'genocide' for defending itself against the atrocities committed by Hamas, that’s the kind of genocidal lie we expect to hear from Hamas," the statement later noted.

"And when she suggested that to remove the Hamas auxiliary — Students for Justice in Palestine — from campuses would increase antisemitism, that’s what we expect to hear from the New York Times," it continued.

The long statement also compared Owens to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on Israel, whom Owens once said was "programmed to hate Israel and she has no idea why."

The anti-Israel rhetoric has also led to criticisms from her own employer, the Daily Wire.

Co-founder Ben Shapiro also recently criticized her response to Israel as superficial, calling on her to change her views on the topic.

The battle continues for Owens who now sees her past supporters speak out against her over her strong anti-Israel statements.
