Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) is getting flagged for an alleged assault in a video on X right now.
Crenshaw appears to be getting ready to walk up the steps of the Capitol as he is being questioned by what has been reported as a journalist for the National File, a publication that had been founded by conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.
As they approached the steps, Crenshaw moved behind the journalist and appeared to try to trip him as was walking up the steps.
Assault!
The video of the incident was first posted on X by Charles Downs, a contributor to the publication.
Then the National File reposted the video, adding this context to it…
Dan Crenshaw INTENTIONALLY ASSAULTED National File publisher @NoelFritsch while @HowleyReporter was asking Dan about his support for the War Machine and Scalise's lack of votes needed to become #HouseSpeaker. https://t.co/lVcXFVOMwf

I kind of have a love-hate relationship with Crenshaw because I respect the hell out of his service, but I do not always see eye-to-eye with him on policy.
And while I do live in Texas, I am not in Crenshaw’s district, so he does not represent me. That being the case, there is nothing I can do about that.
I have always maintained, that as long as elected officials are representing their constituents properly, that is all that matters. I will still give my opinion, however, because that is my job.
In this particular instance, that was just a childish maneuver by Crenshaw that really could have backfired on him.
Forget about the optics on this for just one second and consider the ramifications for Crenshaw if that “journalist” had lost his balance, tumbled forward into those steps, and shattered his face.
I don’t like conspiracy sites, not even a little bit, because they make stuff up hoping to get just one thing right so they can tout it. When Alex Jones was at his height, I thought he was a very dangerous man, in my opinion, but I also believe in free speech.
I think Crenshaw would have been far better served to fire back an intelligent answer rather than doing the grade-school move of clipping that guy's heel and trying to trip him.
Crenshaw’s office has not responded to requests for comment.
