Cruz Tries Again for Term Limits Amendment

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) is taking his shot again on term limits.

Cruz has tried to get term limits introduced during several congressional sessions, always failing.

The problem is that he needs the swamp to agree to it, so it is probably destined for failure once again.

Swing Away

The biggest problem we have in D.C. is lifelong politicians, surely not what our Founding Fathers envisioned when they founded this country.

There was a time when our government was a mix of individuals from all walks of life, not people that spent their entire professional careers earning a government paycheck.

To that point, Cruz, in introducing his legislation, stated, “Term limits are critical to fixing what’s wrong with Washington, D.C. The Founding Fathers envisioned a government of citizen legislators who would serve for a few years and return home, not a government run by a small group of special interests and lifelong, permanently entrenched politicians who prey upon the brokenness of Washington to govern in a manner that is totally unaccountable to the American people.

“Terms limits bring about accountability that is long overdue and I urge my colleagues to advance this amendment along to the states so that it may be quickly ratified and become a constitutional amendment.”

Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) supports the legislation stating, “Elected office should represent a short-term privilege of public service, not a career choice.

“Those of us in Congress ought to serve for a reasonable period of time and then return home to live under the laws we enacted.”

The legislation has been co-sponsored by Sens. J.D. Vance (R-OH), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Mike Lee (R-UT), Steve Daines (R-MT), Todd Young (R-IN), Mike Braun (R-IN), Rick Scott (R-FL), Josh Hawley (MO), and Tommy Tuberville (R-AL).

I would love to see no more than three or four terms for the Senate, and a max of 10 terms for the House.

Twenty years is more than enough time to complete your mission. If you have not accomplished it by then, you never will.
