Cruz: McConnell Running Again Could Be Decided by Trump Election

It is no secret that Senator Mitch McConnell is not very well-liked among modern-day Republicans.

We literally begged the Senate to elect a new leader, but they brushed off our demands and put McConnell in charge again.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) would not opine on whether McConnell would run again, but he did say that Trump being elected could influence that decision.

Bad Blood

During the early stages of Trump’s term as president, he and McConnell were actually buddies.

McConnel defended Trump and moved his legislation along, with the primary resistance to Trump being then-Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI).

Toward the latter days of Trump’s presidency, he and McConnell were clearly enemies, and they have been battling over policy and candidates ever since.

In terms of the upcoming election for the presidency, Cruz, who has endorsed Trump, stated, “I believe November is going to be a very good election. I think we’re gonna see Donald Trump reelected as president of the United States.

“I think we’re gonna see Republicans keep and grow our majority in the House, and critically, I think we’re going to win the United States Senate.”

So, what does that mean for McConnell and whether he will run for office again when his term is up?

Cruz tried to answer that, stating, “That’s a decision for Mitch to make. Obviously, there’s a lot of bad blood between Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump.

“Mitch will have to make that decision. What I want to see is I want to see Republicans in the Senate stand and lead and fight.”

Regardless, McConnell would have two more years in the Senate if Trump wins, so the real question is if McConnell would remove himself from leadership or try to keep control of the Senate.

I can tell you this… if McConnell does decide to stay in leadership and does manage to get elected as the Senate leader again, Trump will be lucky to get anything passed because that will be just as bad as Democrats having control.
