Cowboys Head Coach Mike McCarthy to Undergo Emergency Surgery

The Dallas Cowboys have the most important game of the season coming up this weekend.

However, there is now a chance they may have to do it without their head coach, Mike McCarthy.

Reports broke Wednesday afternoon that McCarthy was going to have to undergo emergency surgery for appendicitis.

Big Game

The Cowboys play the Philadelphia Eagles this week for first place in the NFC East.

The Cowboys currently trail the Eagles by one game but would take first place over on tiebreakers if they win.

After this game, they have a gauntlet of some of the other top teams in the league, making this a must-win, which is why fans are getting nervous about McCarthy possibly not being on the sidelines for the game.

McCarthy was experiencing abdominal pain, and after seeing the medical staff, he was hospitalized for the surgery.

He was expected to be released mid-week, but the question was if he would be able to recover in time from the surgery to be on the sidelines for the game.

If McCarthy is not able to be there on Sunday, Defensive Coordinator Dan Quinn would likely take over head coaching duties, but that is not really the problem.

The bigger issue is not having McCarthy calling the offensive plays.

The Cowboys currently lead the league in scoring, this being McCarthy’s first year in taking over play-calling duties after deciding to let former offensive coordinator Kellen Moore go after last season.

This is why Cowboys fans like myself live with constant heartburn, as it is always something with this team.

We are now nearly three decades between Super Bowl wins, and this team is about as complete as they have ever had since the days of the Triplets, and fans want something more than a one-and-done playoff season.

So, get well, coach, because we need you on the sidelines to take down the hated Iggles on Sunday.
