Court date set for Fani Willis disqualification appeal

A date has just been set by the appellate court that is going to hear former President Donald Trump's appeal regarding the possible removal of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis from the case.

According to the Associated Press, the Georgia Court of Appeals has scheduled the oral arguments in the case to take place on Dec. 5, 2024.

This means that the appeal will not take place until after the 2024 presidential election. Accordingly, Willis' case against Trump will also not take place until after the appellate court makes a decision on the matter.

This is being considered a big win for Trump. Read on to see why.

Background

This is all taking place in the criminal case that Willis has brought against Trump and several of Trump's associates, claiming that they committed various crimes when they attempted to challenge Georgia's results in the 2020 presidential election.

The case, however, has not really gotten too far due to several scandals that Willis has found herself at the center of.

The most widely reported of these scandals is the one involving Attorney Nathan Wade, her lover. Willis made Wade the chief prosecutor in the Trump case awarding him a lucrative contract, which he allegedly used to take Willis on trips.

Despite what many legal experts say are obvious conflicts of interest, the judge overseeing the case has allowed Willis to remain on it, so long as Wade is removed from it. Wade has left, while Willis has remained.

Trump and his co-defendants argue that this decision by the judge is erroneous, which is why they have appealed the decision to Georgia's Court of Appeals.

Another big legal win for Trump

As mentioned earlier, the Georgia Court of Appeals' decision to delay the case until December is a big legal win for Trump.

The reason it is a big legal win for Trump is because Willis, to help out the Democrats in the upcoming election, was hoping to obtain a guilty conviction of Trump before the election.

Now, however, Willis will not be able to achieve this goal, because her prosecution of Trump has been put on hold until the appellate court hears and decides Trump's appeal regarding whether or not Willis ought to be allowed to stay on the case.

Trump has been racking up a lot of wins lately, including legal wins. Perhaps the biggest win so far recently came in the classified documents case. There, in another blow to the Democrats, the judge overseeing the case - Judge Aileen Cannon - dismissed the case after determining that prosecutor Jack Smith's appointment by the Biden administration was improper.

Smith is appealing the decision, and it is expected that the case will eventually end up at the U.S. Supreme Court. But, experts believe that it will not get there until well after the 2024 election.
