Comer Asks Former Social Security Administration Boss to Testify
During the Biden administration, an effort was made to allow more and more government workers to work from home.
The problem with this is that the American taxpayer is footing the bill for office space that is now sitting empty.
To that point, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) sent a letter to former Social Security Administrator Martin O’Malley to come in and explain the changes he made to qualify for telework status just prior to him leaving his post.
Explain This Mess
The Social Security Administration has nearly 60,000 employees, most of which are now working from home, at least for a part of their workweek.
In his letter asking O’Malley to come in, Comer stated, “This failure to show up runs parallel to failures at SSA to accomplish its mission.
“SSA is failing to adequately serve the American people, as SSA disability determination processing times on average have increased since fiscal year 2020.”
Donald Trump has vowed to end this practice, but the Biden administration signed a new agreement, including new standards put in place by O’Malley just before he left his post.
Comer’s letter continued, “Your motive for signing such an agreement is unclear, nor is it clear why the public interest is served by having a departing official of a lame duck Administration determine the work arrangements to occur at an agency for years after he is gone.
“Democracy is best served when an incoming, duly elected President and his appointees are empowered to actually manage the workforce they are charged with overseeing.”
Working from home is not as easy as it sounds, and most people fall into the regular traps, such as surfing the internet, getting distracted by kids or pets, or just lowering their overall level of production.
Now, some people excel in this environment, but distractions are tough to ignore, so I can guarantee you that the American taxpayer is not getting their money’s worth here.
This is one area where I am looking forward to Trump dropping the hammer, and I cannot wait to hear and see the liberal tears flowing when, hopefully, Trump calls them all back to the office or gives them their walking papers.
