How does election fraud happen?
In many cases, just pure stupidity.
And that is the word to best describe what Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold just did.
Her office mailed out 30,000 voter registration cards to individuals not eligible to vote.
The 'Accident'
According to Griswold's office, the "mistake" was discovered when the mailing list was compared to a list given to them by the Electronic Registration Information Center.
That list did not quite match up with the DMV list, which is when they realized they had sent out voter registration to everyone on the list without checking citizenship.
Her office has stated that it will send out cards to the 30,000 people informing them of the error.
The incident, however, is now under investigation.
The GOP pounced on this.
Colorado's Republican Party chair, Kristi Burton Brown, stated, "Jena Griswold continues to make easily avoidable errors just before ballots go out."
Ballots start to go out by mail on October 17, so Griswold's office has a week to fix this mess.
