CNN Analyst Believes Trump Case Could Be Doomed
CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig has dropped a few bombshells on the network in recent weeks regarding the indictments against Donald Trump.
He has been quite honest in pointing out possible flaws in the case.
To that point, there is one aspect of the case that he believes could doom the case to failure and see Trump walk away scot-free.
Doomsday
The Trump legal team is pushing the narrative that Trump was immune from prosecution because he was the president at the time of the alleged crime.
The question then becomes whether Trump was acting in an official capacity or not.
Is Trump’s argument that he thought the election was rigged and demanding an investigation after the fact protecting the sanctity of our elections or the rants of a man who was upset because he lost? That is the question that the Supreme Court will have to eventually answer.
Honig warned, “If Donald Trump is to win here, obviously Jack Smith’s federal election interference case is out the window.
“I also think Fani Willis’ case is doomed. Yes, that is a state-level case, but the principles of immunity would apply whether it’s a federal or state-level prosecution. Again, that’s if Trump wins.”
Regardless of how that pans out, it would not impact the civil suit brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James, nor would it impact the case being brought by Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg.
The other case that was brought by Jack Smith regarding classified documents would also still be live.
The Willis and Smith case regarding election interference, however, are arguably two of the three strongest cases against Trump, at least in terms of him possibly having at least one charge stick at the conclusion of the appeals process.
If the court rules in Trump’s favor, it also takes one of the judges that Trump is most worried about, Judge Chutkan, right out of the picture.
