Chicago witnesses large number of shootings over the weekend

The city of Chicago, Illinois. has just witnessed a large number of shootings.

ABC News 7 reports that at least 29 individuals were shot in Chicago over the weekend.

The unfortunate fact for the people of Chicago is that this is nothing out of the ordinary. Chicago very often sees a large number of shootings, particularly during weekends.

This is despite the fact that Chicago, which is currently led by Mayor Brandon Johnson (D), has some of the most stringent gun control laws in the country. Clearly, the laws are not working.

The details

By "weekend," ABC is referring to a period between Friday evening and early Monday morning. During that time period, at least 29 shootings took place, some of which proved to be fatal.

ABC, for example, reports:

A man was fatally shot inside a vehicle on the city's West Side late Friday night, Chicago police said. Police said the shooting happened in the West Garfield Park neighborhood's 4700-block of West Lake Street just before 11:15 p.m. Someone fired shots from a blue sedan, striking a 27-year-old man, who was a passenger in another vehicle, police said. Police said the victim, shot in his chest, was transported in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

As with so many of the shootings that take place in Chicago, the police have been unable to locate the suspect.

At least two more of the shootings also turned out to be fatal.

At the time of this reporting, the rest of the shootings were non-fatal.

It's par for the course

As stated earlier, this is nothing out of the ordinary for Chicago.

The previous weekend, for example, ABC 7 reported that at least 22 individuals had been shot, and, again, some of those shootings turned out to be fatal.

The outlet reported:

A man was found fatally shot in the head on Chicago's South Side early Sunday morning, police said. Police said the shooting happened in Roseland in the 11500-block of South LaSalle Street just before 1 a.m. Officers responded to a call about a person shot and found a 38-year-old man on the ground. He had suffered a gunshot wound to his head. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

This has been going on for years in Chicago. ABC 7 is one of the outlets that covers the situation every weekend.

The big question is what Chicago is doing to cut back on these shootings, and the numbers would suggest not much.
