It is a sad state of affairs when a country like Nigeria holds its officials to a higher standard than the United States.
Unlike Joe Biden, who somehow continues to avoid a formal investigation, the Nigerian oil minister has been charged.
Reports broke this week that former Nigerian oil minister Diezani Alison-Madueke has been charged with bribery offenses, reported the BBC.
Charged
Alison-Madueke, who also served as the president of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in 2014-2015, served as the petroleum minister from 2010-15.
Andy Kelly, Head of the National Crime Agency's (NCA) International Corruption Unit, stated, "We suspect Diezani Alison-Madueke abused her power in Nigeria and accepted financial rewards for awarding multi-million pound contracts.
"These charges are a milestone in what has been a thorough and complex international investigation," reported Reuters.
Alison-Madueke was first arrested in 2015, not long after leaving office.
She has also been the subject of investigations here in the United States.
The filing stated that Alison-Madueke benefited from chauffeur-driven cars, flights on private jets, luxury holidays for her family, the use of multiple London properties, and at least $127,000 in cash.
Well, that sounds like the FEMA trip to Maui this past week that took place on the taxpayer dime.
It also sounds like just about every politician in this country when they travel and claim it is an election expense so they can tap into those campaign coffers to pay for their trips, but I digress.
All assets related to the investigation have been frozen, as well as millions in assets being seized.
So, let me ask this question… is anyone really surprised that an official for OPEC was dishonest while in office?
I didn't think so!
The fact is, global politics is nothing more than the latest get-rich-quick scheme. They hold conferences, enjoy the best that life has to offer, and literally laugh in our faces while putting restrictions on us that they never follow.
The entire system needs to be blown up and started from scratch.
