Effective June, Elon Musk will be stepping away as the CEO of Twitter.
Musk has finally found someone to take over the wheel, and it is honestly a bit surprising.
Musk’s new hire is Linda Yaccarino.
Yaccarino had been working for NBCUniversal as chairwoman for global advertising and partnerships.
Big Change
Musk will slide out of the day-to-day but he does not plan on completely walking away. From what I have read, he will continue to work with the design and tech teams on the platform, while Yaccarino “will focus primarily on business operations,” reports AP News.
Yaccarino comes with a very impressive resume, and I am sure Musk’s first item on her to-do list will be to lure in more advertisers and get the money back into operations.
Mark DiMassimo, founder and creative chief of ad agency DiGo, gave high praise to Yaccarino for her previous work with Comcast and NBC.
He stated, “If anyone can translate the Musk vision into advantages for marketers she’ll be able to do it. Even though there’s skepticism and all marketers live in the ‘show me’ state right now with regard to Twitter, if in fact she does go to Twitter this is a powerfully reassuring move.”
Musk had made significant cuts since taking over Twitter, with roughly 80 percent of the staff having been let go. Musk recently joked that it is amazing how much staff you can shed when you are not in the business of censoring people.
During a recent BBC interview, musk stated, "The issue is, like, the company's going to go bankrupt if we do not cut costs immediately. This is not a caring, uncaring situation. It's like if the whole ship sinks, then nobody's got a job,” reports Fox Business.
One of the first big changes Musk made was to charge for the blue check mark, and now he is offering subscription services.
Tucker Carlson recently announced that he will be operating his new show from Twitter, which we would assume would also feature some type of paid subscription.
If Musk and Carlson are successful, it could completely change the news industry.
