Central Park Drone Show Canceled After Florida Accident

After a horrible drone accident during a show in Florida injured a young boy, shows all over the country are starting to be canceled.

One of those was the big show that was to take place in New York City’s Central Park on New Year’s Eve.

The New York Road Runners announced the cancelation of the event this week.

Canceled

These drone shows are highly monitored by the FAA, but a tragic mistake wound up injuring a 7-year-old boy in Orlando recently.

During a drone show at Lake Eola Park before Christmas, several drones crashed, sending them plummeting to the ground.

The boy was struck so hard in the chest by the drone, it left an imprint and electrocuted the young boy’s heart.

Unfortunately, one of the blades of the drone hit the boy in the mouth, causing a significant cut.

The boy was required to undergo surgery due to the injuries.

The company that held the show, Sky Elements Drones, which is based out of Fort Worth, TX, is now under investigation by the FAA.

After the accident, the city of Orlando stated, “Our thoughts are with the family and all those impacted by the outcome of this event.

“The city remains in contact with the vendor and FAA who will conduct a thorough investigation.”

The New York Runners show included a 500-drone show, which was canceled.

Spokesperson Crystal Howard stated, “As always, we are working to ensure that runners have a memorable time as they ring in 2025 at our festive NYRR Midnight Run on New Year’s Eve in Central Park.

“Unfortunately, due to circumstances out of our control, we will no longer be staging our planned drone show during the race.”

As noted above, this is far from the only show that has been canceled.

Additionally, due to mysterious drone sightings in New York and New Jersey, the FAA has banned drone usage in various areas of New York and New Jersey until mid-January while these sightings are being investigated.
