Canada's leftists send parade of officials to pressure Trump to drop tariff threat
Donald Trump has made it very clear that he no longer wants America to be taken advantage of on the global trade market, and the liberals who have been praying on this for years are starting to get very worried.
Breitbart reports that the leftists in Canada have sent a "parade of officials to convince Trump to drop tariff threat."
Canada's Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly met with American Secretary of State Marco Rubio on January 29 as part of a diplomatic offensive to convince President Donald Trump's administration not to impose a 25% tariff on Canadian goods, which may go into effect on February 1.
Joly wasn't the only person sent by Canada to argue against the tariffs.
On January 30, 2025, Canadian Public Safety Minister David McGuinty arrived in America to make similar arguments. Joly stated that she planned to spend the rest of the week in Washington pressuring officials to convince Trump not to impose the tariffs.
Back in November 2024, Donald Trump made a huge announcement indicating that he was considering imposing a 25% tariff on both Canada and Mexico as punishment for what he sees as their bad border protection, their role in allowing fentanyl into America, and what he called "a disregard for American interests."
"This Tariff will remain in effect until such time as Drugs, in particular Fentanyl, and all Illegal Aliens stop this Invasion of our Country!" Trump posted at the time.
While Trump didn't impose the tariffs on Day One as he originally suggested, he only gave Canada and Mexico until February 1 to take significant action to beef up their border protection.
Like most Americans, Donald Trump is tired of the human trafficking and drug trafficking that is happening across America's borders.
If Canada and Mexico were as eager to stop the problem as America is, this would be a much smaller issue.
The Canadian government is struggling with leadership on multiple fronts right now. Amid the panic over potential tariffs, radical leftist Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced in January that he would resign after a decade in power.
To give his party time to find a new leader, Trudeau moved to prorogue Parliament until March 24, a move that essentially paralyzes Canada's national legislature.
As a result, Canada does not have a functioning legal body to deal with the tariffs if Trump implements them.
No wonder the liberals in Canada are begging Trump not to go through with the tariffs.
