California Democrats delay vote on $50 million anti-Trump bill after Trump visit to Los Angeles

California's State Assembly has postponed a vote on a bill dedicating $50 million to fight President Donald Trump’s policies after Trump visited Los Angeles and humiliated Democrats.

Following Trump's victory back in November, Democrats in California have been scheming on how to "Trump-proof" California as Trump's historical administration will likely be making radical changes at the national and state levels.

California Democrats have supermajorities in both houses of the legislature and control the governor's mansion with Governor Gavin Newsom in the last year of his term.

California Democrats, with cooperation from Governor Newsom, put together a $50 million deal to oppose Trump but this was happening right as the fires were raging in Pacific Palisades, Altadena, and elsewhere.

The optics of Democrats putting together a multi-million dollar partisan bill while Los Angeles burned down weren't good and Trump seized the opportunity to humiliate Democrats.

Trump Crushes Democrats

In the aftermath of the fires, Trump flew into California after visiting the disaster sites in North Carolina and promising aid to Americans abandoned by the Biden administration following Hurricane Helene.

Not only did Trump demonstrate his youthfulness in comparison to his predecessor in making those trips, but he also demonstrated just how disgraceful the behavior of California Democrats was in handling this disaster.

Trump toured the disaster areas meeting with residents who had been ignored by Democrat officials like Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.

Bass had overseen budget cuts to the city fire department as well as the proliferation of DEI policies that prioritized identity politics over maintaining an elite firefighting force in the most burned state in the nation.

Furthermore, Bass was in Ghana at the time of the fires despite knowing that there was a significant wind event that could cause devastating fires.

Trump took Bass and the rest of California's Democrats to task for their behavior and it is safe to say that many loyal blue voters got to see the "Trump effect" in real time for themselves and that prospect has terrified California's ruling elite.

Democrats Scrambling

Trump has threatened to put conditions on federal funds for California, especially in light of news that the state has $50 million to set aside for future lawsuits and other actions against Trump but not enough money to help Los Angeles.

Despite treating the bill as a critical need, state Democrats reportedly went into a "private huddle" after which it was announced that a vote on the bill would not be held.

As Democrats hold a supermajority in California's legislature, it's clear that Trump's threats have caused them to rethink throwing millions at opposing his administration when California voters are closely watching and waiting for aid.
