CALEXIT Movement Going Forward in California

There is a new movement forming in California due to liberal TDS.

The “CALEXIT” movement is gaining steam and was recently approved for signature gathering.

If they can get enough signatures, the measure will appear on the ballot.

Here We Go

The measure was introduced by Marcus Evans of Fresno.

Secretary of State Shirley Weber announced that Evans now needs 500,000+ signatures by July to have the measure appear on the ballot.

If this is approved, the state will have to create a 20-board member commission to study the viability of establishing California as an independent country.

The Secretary of State would be responsible for picking the members, and while being random, they would have to meet certain criteria.

Part of the selection process would be among those nominated by at least 100 registered voters and having lived in California for at least five years.

If approved, it would appear on the 2028 ballot, stating, "Should California leave the United States and become a free and independent country?"

This is very similar to the movement in Texas, but like the Texas movement, it will never succeed.

For it to be valid, it would need at least 50% voter participation and would need to see at least 55% of those who voted to approve the measure.

Evans cited Trump's return to the White House as the reason to give this another shot, believing it would have a far better chance this time than when they tried eight years ago.

Evans stated, "We believe that now is the best time to Calexit - NOW we are better situated to make Calexit happen than in 2016.”

I would suspect that Evans has a very good chance of getting the 500,000+ signatures he will need for the measure, but as noted above, the chances the majority of California votes to leave the Republican are not good.

Without federal money, California would have no shot of keeping the lights on, a fact that will likely be made quite apparent during this little crusade.
