Bondi hopes to reverse Biden commutations for death-row inmates

Pam Bondi is writing some awfully big checks right out of the gate, but the question is whether she can cash them.

The latest was Bondi’s desire to reverse commutations given to death-row inmates by Joe Biden.

I am not against the idea, as I thought the commutations were utterly ridiculous, but there are some very important aspects of this nobody is talking about.

In announcing her decision, Bondi stated, "The commutations also robbed the victims' families of the justice promised — and fought hard to achieve — by the Department of Justice.

"The Department of Justice is directed to immediately commence the following actions to achieve justice for the victims' families of the 37 commuted murderers."

First, there is no precedent for reversing a presidential pardon or commutation, so that will be Bondi’s first hurdle. The Constitution is not on her side.

Second, let’s say that she is successful in doing this, then what do you think happens to all the J6 defendants when a Democrat comes back into office?

If Bondi is successful, that means a Democrat president would then be able to reverse every pardon or commutation given by Trump. That is a mess that there is no way the Supreme Court would allow to take place.

I get her point, and I agree with her 100 percent, but a pardon or commutation reversal is not going to be in the cards here. The ONLY pardons I think they can go after are the preemptive pardons given by Biden. There is no precedent for that, so they are all fair game.

What would be a better allocation of time and money would be to figure out how to check the presidential pardon powers, as they have clearly been abused by Biden going out and Trump coming in.

The pardons of the few dozen people who beat on cops during the J6 riot is still not sitting well with me, and that will never be something that I support.

Right now, pardons and commutations are at the president's whim, and I think the last two months have shown us all just how dangerous that power can be.
