Bondi drops lawsuit on Illinois and Chicago over sanctuary laws
Game on…
The joust has started between Pam Bondi’s Department of Justice and sanctuary cities.
She has just filed suits against the state of Illinois and the city of Chicago to challenge sanctuary status laws.
Here We Go
This is the fight I have been looking forward to for years, and Bondi has put on the gloves and she is ready to throw hands.
I have stated since I have been covering politics that I never fully understood how, with immigration clearly being under federal purview, states and cities could create legislation to blatantly circumvent federal immigration laws.
Bondi’s suit accuses the city of Chicago and the state of Illinois of refusing “to cooperate with [ICE] detainers," adding, "Instead of handing over people who are in prison or in jail to federal immigration authorities they will just let folks go."
In 2017, the Illinois Trust Act was signed into laws, stating, "State law does not currently grant State or local law enforcement the authority to enforce federal civil immigration laws."
Chicago has a local ordinance called the Chicago's Welcoming City, which prohibits local agencies from arresting or detaining "a person solely on the belief that the person is not present legally in the United States."
I don’t get why Democrats think they can just pick a law and decide it is not valid in their state or city.
As I have stated in other reports, the Supreme Court has been very clear about the fact that immigration falls completely under federal purview.
The only exception to this that I have seen is when the federal government fails to live up to its obligations, such as when Texas made the case it had the right to lock down its border since the Biden administration was allowing illegals to flow freely into the country.
I expect Bondi to lose in the lower courts if she goes before liberal judges, but that means nothing in this case.
This is all about the big show in front of the Supreme Court, where I am hoping Chief Justice Roberts gets a backbone to we see a 6-3 ruling that will crush sanctuary city status.
