Bill Barr: SCOTUS Will ‘Slap’ Down Colorado Supreme Court Ruling

Former Attorney General Bill Barr just chimed in on the Colorado Supreme Court ruling that barred Trump from being on the 2024 ballot.

Now, I know most of you despise Bill Barr, and he surely is a member of the DC swamp, having also served in the Bush administration.

That, however, is what makes his statement on this all that much more important to read.

They Got It Wrong

You do not have to be a legal expert to see that the ruling in Colorado was more about ideology than the Constitution or the law.

This is an extreme measure and a precedent that would have severe ramifications in this country in terms of our elections.

Barr addressed this during a recent interview on CNN, stating, “As you know, I strongly oppose Donald Trump for the Republican nomination. I think this case is legally wrong and untenable. I think this kind of action of stretching the law and taking hyper-aggressive missions to knock Trump out of the race they are counterproductive. They backfire, as you know. He feeds on grievance just like a fire feeds on oxygen. This will end up as a grievance that helps him.

“To deprive somebody of the right to hold office requires due process, an adjudication of two core issues. For insurrection, did the public disturbance rise to the level of insurrection, what was the role of the individual? What is the engagement? Did they do something to break your oath of office? Those are complicated facts, and this was denied due process. It was a five-day hearing. There was no jury.”

When Barr was asked how he thought the Supreme Court would respond to the case, he stated, “I think if they take it up, they’re going to slap it down quickly. I hope they do take it up quickly and slap it down.”

I agree with him on just about every point, as Trump has been fueled by his legal problems, creating a huge gap between himself and Ron DeSantis after the first indictment came down.

I also agree with his point about defining an “insurrection,” as it became the keyword right out of the gate with Democrats, but was that a real threat to the government?

As bad as January 6 was, if it was truly an insurrection, would we have pictures of “insurrectionists” talking to police officers and, in some cases, even helping the officers get people out of the Capitol? Was there ever really a threat of the rioters taking over our government?

The good news is that once the Supreme Court takes the case, the issue will be settled once and for all and we will no longer have to sit on the edge of our seats as blue states continue to allow this process to be played out.
