Biden's Reveals Classified Intel During Interview with Comedian

In an unexpected turn during an appearance on NBC's Late Night with Seth Myers, President Joe Biden shared insights into ongoing negotiations regarding Israeli hostages.

Biden, while enjoying ice cream with Myers, discussed hopes for a "ceasefire" by the following Monday, though he didn't specify if it would be temporary or permanent.

“My national security adviser tells me that we’re close,” Biden said. The octogenarian was speaking to reporters in New York City about the possible ceasefire.

“We’re close,” he said on Monday. “We’re not done yet. My hope is by next Monday we’ll have a ceasefire.”

His optimism clashed with the stark reality as both Israel and Hamas swiftly refuted the existence of any such deal.

Biden's disclosures inadvertently revealed sensitive details about Israel's bargaining positions, potentially compromising the delicate negotiations. He mentioned Israel's offer to halt hostilities during the upcoming Islamic holy month of Ramadan, inadvertently solidifying a stance meant to be part of ongoing negotiations.

This revelation not only pinned a public position on Israel but also showcased the challenges of diplomacy amid religious sensitivities, given historical instances of conflicts erupting during Ramadan.

Israeli government spokesperson Tal Heinrich swiftly clarified on Tuesday that no agreement had been reached with Hamas, dismissing the group's demands as impractical and signaling a significant gap between the parties' positions.

Heinrich emphasized the alignment between Washington and Jerusalem regarding the war's objectives but stressed that Hamas needed to recalibrate its demands for any meaningful progress to occur.

The incident drew comparisons to past instances where leaders faced criticism for alleged indiscretions during diplomatic exchanges.

Some critics speculated about potential political motives behind Biden's disclosures, suggesting a desire to appeal to Arab and Muslim voters ahead of Michigan's primary vote.

The incident underscored the complexities of diplomatic communication and the challenges of balancing transparency with strategic negotiations, particularly in sensitive geopolitical contexts.
