Joe Biden has once again taken it on the chin for his immigration program.
For the first two years he was in office, he was under fire from conservatives.
Now he is taking heat from members of his own party, including an Obama-appointed judge, who just halted a new rule Biden put in place, more than likely because it was too similar to the rule that Trump had in place, reported the New York Times.
Sorry, No Go, Joe
Judge Jon Tigar has just blocked the new Biden rule that more or less plagiarized from the Trump-era Safe Third Country Agreement.
This allowed the administration to expel migrants for not asking for asylum in a country they passed through before coming to the United States.
The Biden rule was a duplicate of this rule, but Judge Tigar sided with numerous civil rights and immigration advocacy groups that filed a lawsuit.
The Biden administration now has 14 days to file its appeal. Meanwhile, the rule is halted, which means the floodgates are going to open back up for two weeks.
If the rule is permanently rejected, Biden will start to see numbers that he saw in the spring before crossings tailed off when Biden put this new rule into place. He will then solely be reliant on the efforts of red state border governors, especially Greg Abbott, who has been very aggressive in fighting illegal immigration.
Katrina Eiland, the ACLU attorney, stated, "Each day the Biden administration prolongs the fight over its illegal ban, many people fleeing persecution and seeking safe harbor for their families are instead left in grave danger," reported Reuters.
That is not a narrative Biden needs liberals to hear going into an election season.
DHS Secretary Mayorkas made a desperate plea, telling migrants, "Do not believe the lies of smugglers. Those who fail to use one of the many lawful pathways we have expanded will be presumed ineligible for asylum."
So, Joe, how does it feel to be treated like Donald Trump for a day?
