The $6 billion in Iranian assets that Biden had South Korea release has been one of the bigger topics since Hamas attacked Israel.
It became a bigger topic of discussion after we found out that Americans were killed and taken hostage.
Even so, Joe Biden refuses to freeze that money again.
The Money Stays Put
Why Biden is not being proactive on this front is utterly baffling to me.
When National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan was asked about freezing that money, he responded, “We have not yet had a dollar of that $6 billion spent, and I will leave it at that.”
Iran was involved in supplying and planning this attack, something that has been confirmed by the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post.
Even with those reports, there have been reports that our intelligence agencies say that Iran was just as surprised as Israel and the United States that this attack took place.
Nobody believes that of course and that is because this administration as well as the Obama administration have a long history of cuddling up to Iran.
This is really becoming a big issue for Biden, as Democrats have started to walk across the aisle on this and demand that he free the money.
We also have to note that Iran’s president has openly stated that the money will go wherever he sees fit to spend it.
The idea that the funds will only go to “approved vendors” is a joke. Are we really to believe that Iran would not threaten these vendors and hide the fact the money was ending up in Iran’s hands for whatever it saw fit?
This really was an opportunity for Biden to show some strength, and he failed again.
His weakness cost lives in Afghanistan and abandoned Americans behind enemy lines, a story where we may never get the full truth. It has resulted in two of our allies now at war and it has put two other allies at risk.
Yet, that $6 billion just sits there waiting for Iran to figure out a way to use it for nefarious purposes.
