Biden Sending Officials to Southern Border

It would appear that Joe Biden has been watching the polls.

Biden has paid very little attention to the southern border since taking office, blaming everything on Donald Trump while allowing more migrant encounters in two months than Trump ever saw in a full year.

Now, however, after his polling took a massive dip, Biden at least seems ready to put a paper towel into the leaking dam.

Before the Christmas recess, Speaker Johnson (R-LA) sent a letter to Joe Biden demanding that he take action on the border

In part, he wrote, “While a bipartisan group of Senators has begun extensive negotiations over the past few weeks to try to find a compromise, they have not yet been able to finalize an agreement. Statutory reforms designed to restore operational control at our southern border must be enacted, but the crisis at our southern border has deteriorated to such an extent that significant action can wait no longer. It must start now, and it must start with you.

“I urge you to immediately take executive actions available to you under existing immigration laws to stem the record tide of illegal immigration.”

Biden had been well above 40% on the border, far above many of his other areas, but he took a huge hit in December, dropping down to 38%. That, coupled with Biden hitting an all-time low in overall approval at 34%, it seems like Biden is finally getting the hint that he needs to change something.

Biden is not going to flinch on Bidenomics and he surely is not going to give way on his green agenda, which leaves him with the border to get his approval rating back up.

To that point, Biden finally decided to do something, or at least give the appearance that he is doing something to address the surge.

After a record-setting November, the third-highest total overall regarding encounters at the southern border, Biden stated he was going to send a team of officials down to Mexico to talk to authorities about addressing the situation.

He stated, "I spoke with President López Obrador of Mexico regarding efforts to manage migration in the Western Hemisphere.

“More enforcement actions are urgently needed to reopen key ports of entry across our shared border. Our teams will convene in the coming days to further actions."

Biden could fix the border situation quite easily if he just shut it down and started deporting everyone, but he has to be careful for fear of mimicking Trump’s border policies, which liberals would never forgive.

All Biden is really trying to do here is slow the flow down enough that will pacify moderates and liberals to the point that he can get those polling numbers back up to beat Trump in the 2024 election.

Right now, Biden is trailing Trump in every key battleground state he won in 2020 as well as nationally, so he clearly has significant work to do and that hourglass is almost out of sand.
