Biden Reverses Hardline Stance, Says He Will Meet with Johnson

Joe Biden has apparently seen the light in regard to negotiating with Speaker Johnson (R-LA).

To this point, Biden has refused to sit down with the Speaker regarding a funding bill for aid for Ukraine and Israel.

On Monday, Biden decided to soften his stance just a bit.

I Will Take the Meeting

When the White House was first asked about the meeting with Johnson, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre shot the idea down immediately.

She stated, "What is there to negotiate, truly?

"What is the one-on-one negotiation about when he's been presented with exactly what he asked for? So, he's negotiating with himself [and] he's killing bills on his own."

That hardline stance changed this week, with Biden saying he was now willing to sit down and chat.

The media asked Biden if he would be willing to talk to Johnson when he returned from another weekend off in Delaware, and he responded, “Sure, I’d be happy to meet with him if he has anything to say.”

Johnson’s office was thrilled, responding, “We welcome the president’s reversal and openness to meeting with Speaker Johnson about the best path forward for securing the nation. It’s long overdue.

“We look forward to hearing from the White House when he’ll be available for a one-on-one meeting that the Speaker has requested for weeks.”

Biden was foolish to take a hard stance from the outset because he knows this is the only leverage the GOP has against him right now in terms of getting legislation passed.

If Biden wants that aid money, he is going to have to give in with meaningful concessions on the border.

He will also have to put better controls in place regarding the Ukraine aid, as the GOP and taxpayers are sick and tired of the reports of the money and weapons falling into the wrong hands.
