Biden Pushing for Peace After Death of Yahya Sinwar

On Thursday, Israel just about broke the internet with videos of the killing of Yahya Sinwar.

The videos showed Sinwar injured after a missile strike after being spotted by a drone, then a second strike to take him out.

Biden tried to interject himself into the success of the strike, but then he immediately reversed to say that now was the time for Israel to seek peace.

He’s Dead

On Thursday, Israel confirmed that Yahya Sinwar had been killed in a rather dramatic fashion.

As noted above, a video was released of a drone confirming the strike.

In the video, Sinwar, the leader of Hamas, could be seen in a chair, clearly wounded and covered in dust from the strike.

He was then seen throwing his rifle or debris at the drone, and moments later, a second strike was dropped on top of him, killing the terrorist leader.

Biden tried to interject himself into the strike, telling the media, “Shortly after the October 7 massacres, I directed Special Operations personnel and our intelligence professionals to work side-by-side with their Israeli counterparts to help locate and track Sinwar and other Hamas leaders hiding in Gaza.

“With our intelligence help, the IDF relentlessly pursued Hamas’s leaders, flushing them out of their hiding places and forcing them onto the run.”

That is a bit overzealous, as the administration has repeatedly asked Israel to stand down and negotiate a cease-fire. We should also note that the Pentagon has announced that it had no involvement at all in the strike.

Biden then immediately pivoted to, once again, push Israel to negotiate a peace deal.

Biden held a call with Prime Minister Netanyahu after the strike was confirmed, where he stated that he told Netanyahu that he should “make this moment an opportunity to seek a path to peace, a better future in Gaza without Hamas.”

He later added, "There is now the opportunity for a 'day after' in Gaza without Hamas in power, and for a political settlement that provides a better future for Israelis and Palestinians alike.”

Hamas, however, is still in power, as someone else in the organization will surely step up to take Sinwar’s place.

Now is the time to complete the job, and I fully expect that to be Israel’s read on the situation.

The ONLY way I see Israel calling for a cease-fire is if new leadership releases all prisoners, but I really don’t see Hamas doing that, as those hostages are their only bargaining chip right now.
