Biden Press Secretary Reveals Cancer Diagnosis
Former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre reportedly had a bit of a family hardship while serving in the Biden administration.
Reports broke this week that KJP’s mother had cancer, but she had not wanted to mention the diagnosis while serving.
The report continued that Joe Biden was one of the few people who knew of the diagnosis.
Mom Has Cancer
In December 2022, Biden threw the first State Dinner held since the COVID outbreak.
She brought her mother to the affair, who told KJP that it was "the happiest day of my life."
According to KJP, that event was the last time she "recognized my mother as the woman I grew up with."
When her mother finally divulged that she had cancer, she wanted to keep it private. KJP explained, "My mother has always been a private person. When she finally acquiesced to reality, she told me: ‘Don’t tell anyone. Do not tell the president I have cancer.’"
KJP said that Biden “showed up for” her during a very difficult time in her life.
This would also explain why KJP was usually absent from Biden’s weekend trips, usually traveling back to New York to help her siblings care for her ailing mother.
She continued that one of the reasons she did not go public because of the weight of being a “first” in a presidential administration.
KJP explained, "I’m the first Black press secretary. The first person of color press secretary. The first openly queer press secretary. The first Haitian American immigrant press secretary. The first press secretary to be all of the above.
“Being a first meant that my responsibilities were beyond those in the job description, the load heavier. I bear a certain responsibility to the communities I represent.”
The interview where KJP revealed the information was in the latest issue of Vanity Fair, but I would imagine a book will be coming out soon.
Now that Biden is officially out of office, it is time for everyone in the administration to cash in, and you better believe publishing houses will be lining up to get a book from KJP and Harris, who are both among the “firsts” in Biden’s administration.
