Joe Biden has been getting hammered in polling, now seeing Trump get distance between himself and Joe Biden.
Biden also has the second-lowest approval rating in modern history at this point in his presidency.
The 2023 cycle has all but ensured that Biden will remain the candidate, much to the chagrin of many Democrats.
Big Day
The 2023 election was to be a measuring stick of how Democrats would fair in the 2024 general election.
Generally speaking, off-year elections garner little excitement, especially when you have a sitting president who is crashing and burning in polling.
The only president in modern history who had a lower approval rating than Joe Biden is Jimmy Carter, and he got crushed in his re-election bid.
In national polling, Biden is now trailing Trump by a few points, but national polling is useless in a presidential election. This is all about state polling due to the Electoral College.
In five of six battleground states, Biden is getting crushed by Trump, with the closest state being won by Trump being a 4% advantage, with Nevada showing a 10% advantage.
Biden is only ahead in one of the states, and that is the lowest margin of them all, with Biden holding a 2% lead.
Now Biden’s team is trying to figure out if they want to push a positive message for his alleged accomplishments or go negative with attacks against Trump.
Since Biden’s accomplishments are only accomplishments in his head, my guess is they will go negative and try to make Hillary’s 2016 “I am not Donald Trump” election strategy work in 2024.
Some big names in the Democrat Party are now looking for Biden to get out of the race.
This would include former Obama adviser David Axelrod and Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN), who is actually running for president to give voters the alternative to Biden polling says they want.
